FRED JOHNSTON was born in Belfast in 1951 and co-founded the old Irish Writers’ Co-operative in the ‘Seventies. He is founder of Galway’s annual Cuirt festival and ran the Western Writers’ Centre. Three novels and two collections of short stories have been published, along with nine collections of poetry and several plays performed. In 2004 he was writer-in-residence to the Princess Grace Irish Library at Monaco. He also received a Prix de l’Ambassade for French poetry translation and has written and published poetry in French, in Hopala!, Moulin de Poesie, and elsewhere. His most recent collection of poems is ‘Rogue States,’ (Salmon Poetry 2019.) Back in 1972 he was one of the very first recipients of a Hennessy Literary Award for prose: one of his most recent stories has been published in The Barcelona Review. Poetry has appeared in The Spectator, Stand, The Financial Times, The Irish Times, The New Statesman, and was featured in The Guardian’s ‘Poem of the Week’ slot, edited by Carol Rumens. Prose and poetry have featured regularly on RTE’s Sunday Miscellany.
MARY ELLEN FEAN is from East Galway and her most recent poetry collection is ‘Driftwood’ (Revival Press.) She has read her work widely, in festivals and poetry events in Galway, Limerick, and elsewhere. Work has appeared in The SHOp, Cyphers, The Clare Champion, Revival, and she was shortlisted for the Desmond O’Grady Poetry Prize a couple of years ago.
