Traditional Mowing of a Meadow – The Return of the Scythe | events

15 July @ 10:00 am - 11:00 pm

| Free

Cut the long grass of a wildflower meadow in the old fashioned biodiversity- friendly way using traditional hand-held scythes. The grass that is gathered will be bailed into haycocks and be used as nutrient rich fodder for some lucky cattle on a farm in rural Galway.
The meadow was planted a few years ago with a myriad of native wildflowers and has become a haven for pollinators such as bees and butterflies whose populations are declining alarmingly due to intensive chemical-based farming.
